(1-24-24) Van Wert Police are looking for a man that attempted to throw a Molotov Cocktail through a window to set fire to a garage.

A Molotov cocktail is a hand-thrown incendiary weaponconsisting of a frangible container filled with flammable substances and equipped with a fuse(typically a glass bottle filled with flammable liquidssealed with a cloth wick). In use, the fuse attached to the container is lit and the weapon is thrown, shattering on impact. This ignites the flammable substances contained in the bottle and spreads flames as the fuel burns.

The suspect is described as being between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall with a skinny build.

The incident took place this morning at around 4:09 a.m. in the 900 block of Leeson Avenue.

Police say the man was caught on camera running from the scene and showed the man’s throw failed and instead and caught a recycling bin on fire.

A witness inside the garage at the time saw the man running from the scene.
