DeWine provides details on administrative rules following his veto of HB 68

(1-5-24) Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced today that he has signed an executive order, enacting emergencies rules that ban gender transition surgeries for minors at any hospital and ambulatory surgical facility in Ohio. The ban is effective immediately.

DeWine said-

“This will ensure that surgeries of this type on minors can never happen in Ohio.”

Last week the Governor vetoed House Bill 68 that would have banned gender-affirming care for minors and prevented people born male from participating in girls’ and women’s sports.

House Republicans have said that when they meet again this coming Wednesday that they plan to override the Governor’s veto. In response to that at today’s announcement he said:

“That’s fine, they have a constitutional right to do that.”
