(12-24-23) GREENVILLE – Beginning Monday, January 8, the Greenville Public Library will be hosting our annual Winter Reading Challenge for readers of all ages!
We’ll be holding a kickoff on the 8th from 2 to 4 p.m., complete with a hot chocolate bar!
Back by popular demand, adults, children, teens, and families are able to join in on the prize-winning together. With the same format as last year, patrons can select which prize they’d like to win! We will have seven themed prize baskets, and each entry can be placed in the drawing of your choice. Basket themes this year include Soup’s On!, For the Birds, and Deliciously Disney!
The adult challenge will remain the same: fill out a slip for each book, audiobook, or magazine you checkout. Children, teens, and families will also be able to choose which prize basket they’d like to try and win, however, their method of earning entries are different than the adults. They can pick up a sheet featuring fun activities to complete to earn slips. Some of these challenges include reading at the library, playing an outdoor game, and reading the first book in a series. Each activity accomplished earns an entry into your drawing of choice. Simple and fun!
The Winter Reading Challenge runs from January 8 through February 23. If you can’t make it to our kickoff, no worries. All ages can sign up at any time during the program. For more information, call (937) 548-3915 and ask for Joanna or Deb.
GREENVILLE – At Greenville Public Library, we do our best to provide a wide variety of programs for all ages, and that’s never been more apparent as we proudly announce our newest offerings for 2024!
In addition to our monthly Movie Matinees for adults and teens, we will begin hosting Adult Color & Chat on Wednesday, January 3 at 11 a.m. This is open to anyone 18 or older who is looking for a relaxing time to unwind and possibly even make some new friends! Color & Chat will recur every first Wednesday, so mark your calendars now!
We will also be adding new monthly offerings for Young Adults ages 11 to 18. YA After School Hangouts will begin on Thursday, January 4 and be held the first Thursday of each month. This event will run from 4 to 5 p.m. and as with all YA programs, light snacks will be provided.
Speaking of snacks, we’ll be hosting YA Homework and Snacks on the second Friday of each month, beginning January 12. This event will also run from 4 to 5 p.m. Just as the title says, bring your homework to the library, so you can get it out of the way before the weekend even gets started! Snacks will be provided!
We have two Saturday programs scheduled for the month of January as well. On the 20th, we’ll be hosting a Family Game Day in the Reference Room from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. A selection of games will be available to choose from or you can bring your own. Bring your own snacks and use our tables to spread out your games while you enjoy time with family!
In honor of National Seed Swap Day on the 27th, bring in a new packet of your seeds in exchange for a new packet of our seeds! We will be having our annual Seed Swap program later on this year, but take advantage of this added chance to get first pick!
Registration is not required for any of the events listed above. Questions can be directed to Kelly at (937) 548-3915.
GREENVILLE – Come join GPL’s own Leigh Fletcher as she goes over tips and tricks of the travel trade! Travel Planning with Leigh will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 11 in the third floor conference room.
Leigh, who is the co-owner of Friends on Board, plans numerous trips for large groups each year, and she will be imparting her hard-earned wisdom on travel at this event. She will touch on the basics, such as choosing the right destination and how long to spend there, while also delving into the pros and cons of self-planning.
As a professional vacation planner, Leigh will offer insights into air travel and the best ways to make this process as smooth as possible. Her years of experience give her a unique perspective that the average traveler can gain valuable knowledge from and apply to their own lives.
She will also cover topics many don’t necessarily consider when taking a trip, such as choosing the right travel companion for each destination. With Leigh’s help, you can be assured that your next journey will be the best one yet!
This is a free event and registration is not required. For more information on this program, contact Kelly at (937) 548-3915.
