(12-14-23) Ohio’s State senators, by a vote of 24-8, approved a multifaceted bill that would ban gender-affirming care for minors and block transgender student athletes from participating in girls and women’s sports. A lone Republican, Sen. Nathan Manning of Northeast Ohio, joined Democrats in a “no” vote.

The bill would require public K-12 schools and universities to designate separate teams for male and female sexes, and would ban transgender girls and women from participating in girls and women’s sports. Six transgender girls from across Ohio may no longer be able to play on their sports teams.

With a 61-27 vote, the Ohio House of Representatives passed the bill and it is being sent to Gov. Mike DeWine’s desk for final approval.
