CELINA, OH- Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey announced this evening (11/23/23) the arrest of Dwight L Bonapart II (41) of Lima, OH for Felony Vandalism (F-5) relating to an incident that took place at 12348 Dutton Rd, Mendon in Union Township.

At 5:46 PM, Mercer County Central Dispatch received a call from OnStar who advised that an OnStar member had called in to them through his black 2017 Chevrolet Silverado. The caller was telling them about an elaborate scheme and that he had heard gun shots and friends were being killed. Deputies responded to the scene to find Dwight Bonapart II sitting in his pickup truck. Contact was made with Bonapart and as he exited his truck, he was making comments that suggested the homeowners were possibly inside the residence and in danger. There were multiple loaded firearms sitting on the ground outside of the truck as well as inside the truck, within reach of Mr Bonapart.
Additional assistance was requested and officers from the Celina Police Department and Rockford Police Department responded to the scene to assist. Bonapart was then detained for his own safety and the safety of the officers. As he was being detained, he resisted and became combative with officers. Mr Bonapart head-butted one of the Celina PD Officers and kicked another. He also had a dog with him that had bitten multiple officers during this process. Eventually, Bonapart was detained and arrested and placed in the rear seat of a Sheriff’s Office vehicle for transport to the Mercer County Jail. The dog was uninjured and remained on scene for follow-up by the Dog Warden.
While being transported to the jail, Bonapart continued to be belligerent in the rear seat of the cruiser, kicking the driver’s side door, damaging it to the point it is unable to properly close. He was able to be booked in to the Mercer County Jail without incident.
As Bonapart was being transported, the deputies and officers on scene completed the remainder of the investigation in to the comments he was making about the residents of the home being in danger. Contact was made with the homeowners and everyone was safe and ok.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Celina Police Department, Rockford Police Department, and Mercer County Prosecutor Erin Minor. No medical treatment was required by those involved. The case will be sent to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for review of any additional charges.
