“We’re upset about biological boys in the girls’ bathroom.

“The school board hasn’t been listening,”

Recently school board candidate Jeff Point told The Lima News-

“We can have a lawsuit from a transgender student or we can have lawsuits from Christian parents who have had enough of their child having to hold their bowels and not go to the restroom because they’re afraid of what they’re going to see,”

During today’s election three of the six candidates have pledged to adopt new rules requiring all students to use the restroom of their biological sex or a single-use family restroom.

In a Hometown Stations reportElida Superintendent Joel Mengerink in regards to Monday’s protest –

“We are here to see to it our students are educated in a safe environment. Encouraging students to participate in a walkout causes a lot of safety concerns on our part not knowing who’s outside with them, especially when we just experienced a social media threat last week. It also takes away instructional time from our students and that’s what we are here for.”
