(11-1-23) Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey reports that his office is investigating a serious injury accident. Central Dispatch received a 911 call at 4:39 PM today advising of a traffic crash at the intersection of Fox Rd and Wourms Rd.

The preliminary investigation indicates that David C Koesters (38) of Fort Recovery was driving a brown 2017 Nissan passenger van Southbound on Wourms Rd. A black 2006 Dodge pickup truck driven by David R Garcia (51) of Fort Recovery was Eastbound on Fox Rd. Garcia failed to stop for the stop sign on Fox Rd at Wourms Rd and struck the Nissan passenger van.

Garcia was transported by Coldwater EMS to IU Health in Jay County, IN for treatment. David Koesters was transported by St Henry EMS to Mercer Health in Coldwater and later air lifted to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

Koesters wife Carrie (35), was a front seat passenger and was transported by St Henry EMS to Mercer Health and also air lifted to Miami Valley Hospital. Their seven children, age range of ten (10) years to fifteen (15) months were all passengers in the van. All seven children were transported to Mercer Health by St Henry EMS and Coldwater EMS for treatment.    

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by members of the Southwest Mercer Fire Department, St Henry EMS, Coldwater EMS, and MCERV (Mercer County Emergency Response Volunteers).  The Mercer County Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and the crash remains under investigation at this time.

When the investigation is completed, it will be forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutors Office for review.
