
Celina, OH (10-21-23) -Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey today announced the indictment of Ashlee R. Heinl-Botkin, (39) 805 Hoover Lane, Coldwater, after a lengthy investigation into missing drug inventory at the Mercer County Emergency Ambulance Service, Coldwater Branch.
On July 5th, 2023, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Mercer County EMS director that a routine inventory was done at the Coldwater EMS facility. During the inventory it was found that medication was missing from the secured medication box. This began an investigation by Mercer County Sheriff’s Office detectives, which included reporting to the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and the DEA. During the investigation, detectives were assisted by an investigator with the Ohio Board of Nursing.
Once the investigation was completed, it was presented to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for review. The Prosecutor’s Office presented the case to the Mercer County Grand Jury on October 19, 2023.
The Grand Jury returned a twenty (20) count indictment on Ashlee R. Heinl-Botkin. Heinl-Botkin is a member of Coldwater EMS. The indictment was for eight counts:
- Theft of Drugs a Felony of the Fourth degree
- three counts of Theft a Misdemeanor of the First degree
- four counts of Possession of a Fentanyl-Related Compound a Felony of the Fifth degree
- four counts of Possession of Drugs a Misdemeanor of the First degree
- one count of Tampering with Records a Felony of the Third degree.
This morning, October 21, Heinl-Botkin was arrested and booked into the Mercer County Adult Detention Facility. She is being held without a bond until further order of the court.
