Phillip Briggs

(10-13-23) Phillip Briggs (46) of Spencerville will serve a minimum of four years in prison after he was sentenced this past week in Allen County Common Pleas Court after being found guilty of a charge of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance and on a previous guilty plea on a reduced charge of voyeurism.

Briggs was arrested in January after police received information that he recorded two girls in various stages of undress during five separate incidents that happened in May and June of 2021.

Briggs was sentenced to 4 to 6 years, he will have to register his address with law enforcement for 25 years as a result of being labeled a Tier 2 sex offender. Briggs is to have no contact or communication with the victims in the case.

In Ohio…Tier II: Sex crime offenders who were convicted for a crime that could be penalized with more than a year of imprisonment, or who committed a sex crime involving a minor. Tier II offenders must re-register every 180 days for 25 years.

Briggs at the time of the incidents was Mayor of Spencerville.
