INFORMATIONAL MEETING ON OCTOBER 12, 2023
(10-4-23) On November 7, 2023, constituents in the unincorporated areas of Mercer County will be asked to vote on:
Shall the Board of Commissioners of Mercer County have the authority to aggregate the retail electric customers located in the unincorporated areas of the County, and for that purpose, enter into services agreements to facilitate for those customers the sale and purchase of electricity, conversion to the aggregation program will occur automatically unless the customers choose to opt out of the program.
Informational Meeting: The Mercer County Commissioners together with Amy Hoffman will hold a meeting on October 12, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. to explain how voting FOR electric aggregation allows your elected officials to purchase electric generation. This meeting will be held in the first-floor conference room of the Central Service Building, 220 W. Livingston Street, Celina. You may access this conference room from the glass door on Sugar Street.
Who is Eligible: All AES customers in the unincorporated areas of Mercer County are eligible to participate. If you are in a current agreement, you may join when the agreement expires. Midwest Electric customers are NOT eligible. However, a yes vote from a Midwest Electric customer will allow neighbors who are AES customers to participate in the savings program. There will be no change to service for Midwest Electric customers.
Purpose: Governmental aggregation is an effective way to save money on electric bills as rates are solicited for a large group of consumers.
How it Works: If approved by voters, the Commissioners will work with the Energy Program Manager through the County Commissioners Association of Ohio to solicit and review competitive electric rates from suppliers. Typically, aggregation contracts will be entered into for two to three years to lock in the best fixed rate. Eligible residents will receive an opt-out letter with the rate/term/supplier for the electric aggregation. If you take no action, you will automatically be enrolled. There is no fee to opt-out of the aggregation program. Your electric utility will remain AES.
