(10-3-23) Eight House Republicans joined Democrats this afternoon to oust Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-California) 216-210. Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, forced the vote on the “motion to vacate.” and seven other Republicans joined him in voting for the ouster.
The eight Republican who voted for ouster of the speakers were — Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz.Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo.Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn.Rep. Eli Crane, R-Ariz.Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla.Rep. Bob Good, R-Va.Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C.Rep. Matt Rosendale, R-Mont.
Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio)., who had voted earlier against the motion to delay the effort to oust McCarthy, also voted against the motion to vacate him. Davidson’s vote seem to be a sign that there could be more conservative hardliners who might flip in favor of McCarthy.
For now Republican Rep. Patrick McHenry of North Carolina will temporarily be leading the House after today’s vote as the speaker pro tempore.
