From the official White House web page —
During an Extreme Republican Shutdown, American Small Businesses Would Lose Out on More Than $100 Million in Critical Financing Every Day
With just one day before the end of the fiscal year, extreme House Republicans are playing partisan games with peoples’ lives and livelihoods and marching our country toward a government shutdown that would have devastating consequences for small businesses and needlessly undermine America’s economic progress. Their partisan approach stands in stark contrast to the Senate’s bipartisan action toward keeping the government open and abiding by the bipartisan budget deal two-thirds of House Republicans voted for just four months ago.
Well it is easy to see that the White House is blaming ‘extreme House Republicans‘. If you go to the briefing page they are accused by the White House in every statement about the pending shutdown.
On September 21st the House of Representatives voted 216-212 against beginning debate on an $886 billion defense appropriations bill, with five conservative Republicans joining Democrats to oppose the measure.
So the White House blames the Republicans…but since every Democrat also voted against the bill, why are they not getting some of that responsibility. If it is that important to them to avoid a government shutdown because of it being devastating to the country…they could have voted to pass it, but not one did. So maybe they don’t think it is that important to pass it on…maybe it is based on a politics? No…the Democrats would never do that :).
This past week President Biden has been traveling around the country…including fund raising in California and a speaking engagement in Arizona. No word if he has even contacted anyone on the Hill to find out what he can do to move the process ahead.
