(9-28-23) Around 1:20 p.m., Wedneday afternoon Berne police responded to a report of someone passing bad checks at a business in the 200 block of Heritage Trail.
Officers arrested one suspect, Paul Lane (34) and another suspect, Lawrence Freeman (28) who got in his car and drove away.
Decatur police would locate Freeman’s car near the intersection of US Highway 27 and Winchester Street and attempted to pull him over. Freeman would lead police on a chase north on US 27/33 towards Fort Wayne that ended at the intersection of Tillman Road and Hanna Street in Fort Wayne.
That is when Freeman would get out of the vehicle and took off on foot. He was eventually caught.
Freeman and Lane are presently located at the Adams County Detention Center.
Freeman is facing felony charges of fraud and resisting law enforcement.
Lane is facing a felony charge of fraud.
Investigators found evidence that Lane and Freeman have been committing similar criminal acts at around in northeast Indiana.
