(9-7-23) State Rep Angie King (R-Celina) has responded on Facebook to the recent protest held in Celina on HB 245. King is one of the main sponsors of the bill. House Bill 245 would ban drag queens from performing in front of children

On Saturday, September 9, at the Mercer County Courthouse, a protest was held in opposition to HB 245.

I, along with Rep. Josh Williams, introduced this bill to protect impressionable children from adult sexualized performances.

The protesters are not happy that this bill restricts obscene adult performances to adult-only cabaret establishments. Not only do these adults feel it is their right to twerk and gyrate in front of your minor children, Saturday’s protest also revealed their intent to undermine and usurp your parental rights to direct the upbringing of your children.

One of the speakers at the protest of HB 245, former Worthington City School Board member, Sam Shim, claimed, “In so many families, the biggest and first bully they encounter is their own PARENTS. And how can kids be safe when their parents are the bullies that indoctrinate kids?”

Another speaker said, “Your children will see us! Your children will love us! Your children will join us!” The crowd cheered loudly and applauded thunderously. Clearly, their own words and reactions show their movement is an assault not only on childhood innocence, but on the family as well.

We must protect children from exposure to lewd and obscene performances. HB 245 will protect Ohio’s children!

In November of 2022 King won the 84th District House seat easily outdistancing Democrat Sophia Rodriguez with 82% of the vote. King has been very active in the House, including this bill.
