
(8-25-23) Chelsea Lanett Crossland (28), a Portland mother who was convicted of killing her five-year-old son Christian, was sentenced in Jay Circuit Court on Thursday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The jury recommended imprisonment for life without parole, which Jay Circuit Court Judge Brian Hutchison accepted.
Crossland was found guilty of murder and neglect of a dependent resulting in death…the incident took place on March 24, 2022..

An autopsy revealed that Christian died as a result of “complications from blunt force trauma” to his head and face. The child also suffered from malnutrition.
According to court documents Crossland beat, choked and spanked the child and at times and did not allow him to eat “for days at a time.”
Crossland had prior convictions of driving while intoxicated, invasion of privacy, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting law enforcement.
