(8-25-23) Mercer County Board of Elections members at a special meeting this week moved to certify Amanda Bruce to the ballot after tossing out one of her five part-petitions on which she had allegedly falsely signed her name as the circulator.
From Deb Sneddon, Director of the Mercer County Board of Elections
The Mercer County Board of Elections met on August 16th to certify petitions. Three petitions were called into question. One candidate dated his signature on the Declaration of Candidacy with the date of the election and did not fill in an election date. Another candidate had not placed his signature on the Circulator Statement. The third candidate’s petition came into question regarding who circulated a part petition and who signed the Circulator Statement.
The Board met again on August 21st and the first two candidates asked for reconsideration. Ultimately, the petition with the discrepancy with the election date was certified, while the petition without a signature on the Circulator Statement remained disqualified. The board had taken no previous action on the third candidate’s petition, pending an investigation of one part of the petition. After review, the Board rejected the part petition in question and determined the remaining parts were sufficient for certification.
Bruce is now the subject of a criminal investigation that was sent to county prosecutors who are considering a falsification charge that could range from a misdemeanor to a fifth-degree felony. However; Bruce’s name will appear on the general election ballot.
Below is Bruce’s statement on the situation on her Facebook page–

Another Celina school board candidate, Tim Homan, was certified to the general election after holding a second vote.
