(8-1-23) Cara Muhlenkamp, Mercer County Fairground Manager, recently spoke to the Celina Kiwanis about the upcoming county fair which runs from August 11—17. After waiting for several years, the fair will feature sea lions. Three concerts will entertain crowds during the opening weekend: Russell Dickerson on Friday, Toby Mac on Saturday, and Diamond Rio on Sunday.

The Mercer County Fair has received two honors from the Greater Ohio Showman’s Association: Best Fair and, for Cara Muhlenkamp, Best Fair Manager. Muhlenkamp encouraged club members to submit entries to the show competitions from their hobbies or interests. These competitions are open to a wide range of interests from agriculture to fine arts. The Celina Kiwanis Club sponsors a contest every year on Kids’ Day.
Future plans for the fairgrounds include the construction of a Grand Event Center and Market Hall as well as the Cornerstone Chapel. These will enhance the experiences of fairgoers as well as participants during other activities at the fairgrounds.
At their board meeting, the club voted to donate $150 to the Sportsman’s Association Youthfest, $100 to Tailgate for Cancer, and three books to the Mercer County Library in honor of speakers the club hosted. They also voted to purchase a case of mac and cheese to donate to a local food bank at the Ohio District Convention and to donate a basket for the convention fundraiser.
The club had a successful weekend at the Lake Festival. They would like to thank Emma and Jen McDowell, Nathan Hart, Maddy LaFramboise, William and Katelyn Fuelling, Ralph Schmit, James Hiles and Gerald Vian for their help with the food stand. The club will close out their summer activities by sponsoring the Mr. Potato Head Contest at the county fair.
