(7-17-23) The Magical World of Disney is facing a push-back on an upcoming live action film that is due out in 2024...Snow White.

Disney says it is taking a ‘different approach‘ with the characters originally referred to as the ‘seven dwarfs‘ will now be the ‘magical creatures‘ in its remake of its classic film Snow White in an effort to ‘avoid reinforcing stereotypes‘

In 1989, the United States Library of Congress deemed the film “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” and selected it as one of the first 25 films for preservation in the National Film Registry. The American Film Institute ranked it among the 100 greatest American films, and also named the film as the greatest American animated film of all time in 2008. Disney’s take on the fairy tale has had a significant cultural effect, resulting in popular theme park attractions, a video game, a Broadway musical.

Last week the Daily Mail story broke showing the replaced dwarfs with the new magical creatures…which also showed a dwarf actor as one of the new group. Social media went crazy after that.

Other issues that caused the movie to be lambasted with negative comments was tow of the main actresses being cast in the movie.

Snow White is being played by Hispanic actress Rachel Zegler who recently played Maria in Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story. Snow White has been described as –

Snow White is a beautiful 14-year old girl, often described as the “fairest in the land.” The phrase “lips red as a rose, hair black as ebony, and skin white as snow”, describes her most notable features, being her rosy red lips and rosy cheeks, and both her hair and skin color. The wicked step-mother is being played by Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot who grew up in Israel.

The Evil Queen is Snow White’s evil and vindictive stepmother who is obsessed with being “the fairest in the land”. The beautiful young princess Snow White evokes the Queen’s sense of envy, so the Queen designs a number of plans to kill Snow White through the use of witchcraft.
