(6-26-23) JAY COUNTY, Ind. – Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Milestone Contractors LP plans to begin work next month to replace the S.R. 26 bridge over the Salamonie River in Portland.

Beginning on or after Monday, June 26, crews will close S.R. 26 in both directions between Industrial Pkwy. and C.R. S. 100 E. This closure will allow crews to remove the existing steel structure and construct a new bridge using pre-stressed concrete beams. Along with the new bridge, crews will also complete installation of concrete approaches, piling, end bents, guardrail end treatments and asphalt pavement on each end of the bridge. This project is expected to be complete mid November, weather permitting.
The official detour follows U.S. 27 and S.R. 67 in Indiana and S.R. 29 and S.R. 49 in Ohio.
INDOT encourages drivers to consider worker safety by slowing down, using extra caution and driving distraction-free when travelling in and around all work zones.
