CELINA-(1-28-20) Mercer County Health District updated recent COVID 19 deaths.
- 73rd resident to die from COVID-19 was an 84-year-old male from Celina
- 74th resident to die from COVID-19 was an 88-year-old female from Coldwater
- 75th resident to die from COVID-19 was an 89-year-old male from Rockford
- 76th resident to die from COVID-19 was a 65-year-old male from Rockford
Mercer County Health District staff and volunteers have vaccinated 1,051 people since the COVID-19 vaccine first became available.People who are 75 years of age and older are eligible to receive the vaccine this week. The Mercer County Board of Developmental Disabilities has partnered with MCHD to ensure the availability of the vaccine for their clients who have developmental or intellectual disabilities along with other conditions that qualify them to be vaccinated during Phase 1B. The clinic that’s scheduled for tomorrow is full. Registration is closed.
Beginning next week, individuals who are 70 years of age and older will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. As a reminder, appointments must be scheduled online through Eventbrite or by calling the MCHD office at 567-890-2619. The MCHD will publicly announce related information each Monday. Registration will open at noon on Tuesday, and MCHD staff will be available to assist with registration over the phone until 3:00 PM. As we continue to prioritize the most vulnerable members of our community, a special registration hour will be offered from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Tuesday, February 2 for people who are 80 years of age and older to register by phone. Weekly vaccination clinics may be canceled due to inclement weather or insufficient supply of vaccine.
Yesterday, the MCHD began administering the 2nd dose of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine. The MCHD has received reports of individuals who have had the following side effects: body aches, fever, headache, and chills. While these side effects may be unpleasant, they are simply indications that the body is responding to the vaccine and creating immunity from the virus.
The first mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Mercer County was held on January 20, 2021 at the Mercer County Fairgrounds. Although MCHD staff and volunteers vaccinated 525 people during that first clinic, wait times in excess of two hours and lack of easily-accessible restroom facilities overshadowed the success of the event. During the following week, the schedule was adjusted and two accessible portable toilets were provided along the drive-thru clinic route. During the second clinic held on January 27, the average time spent at the fairgrounds by people who were vaccinated was approximately 40 minutes. MCHD staff will continue to make practical improvements to enhance the efficiency and comfort of the clinic experience.
As of January 28, 2021, the Mercer County Health District (MCHD) reports 3,739 confirmed cases, 693 probable cases, 3,542 recovered cases, 16 pending cases, 7 hospitalizations, 76 COVID-19 deaths, and 18 probable deaths of COVID-19. There have been 19 confirmed cases who have passed away due to causes other than COVID-19. Currently, there are 97 known active cases of COVID-19 in Mercer County.

MCHD needs to have a meeting with the state health department to figure out how long COVID patients have to stay in quarantine and to let the Covid-19 patients know

Also, if you make an appointment to get a vaccine, it will help your cause out quit a bit if you print the prescreening form out and fill in the blanks before you go for the shot. They have a parking lot there so you can fill one out in the car, but it will speed you along if it’s already filled out.
