hotspot

(12-2-17) The Mercer County District Library’s Mobile Hotspot lending collection provides patrons greater access to the Internet away from the library and furthers the Library’s mission to provide resources to serve the enrichment, enjoyment, and educational needs of the public.

The Library’s Mobile Hotspot provide unlimited high speed Internet to patrons 18 and older.  These hotspots are small (about the size of a deck of cards) and easily transportable.  The devices allow patrons to connect their devices almost anywhere, whether at home, in the park, or on vacation. Patrons must have a valid photo ID and library card to check out a hotspot. The devices circulate for two weeks and are non-renewable.

Information Technology Specialist, Eric Lochtefeld

“There are many uses for these hotspots. They are great for travel, for patrons who are between Internet Service Providers, and really any place that free WiFi is not traditionally available. We see this service as an extension of the Library’s free WiFi access.”

All four library locations have seen a continual increase in Internet Access.  More than 21,000 users connected to the Library’s free WiFi so far this year.  With more than 35 public computers available in the Mercer County District Library System, there have been a total of 17,000 hours of use in the same time period.
