(7-6-17) The Celina Board of Education held a special meeting Thursday (7-6-17) morning and formally approved the sale of the Franklin School Building in Montezuma and approved a resolution declaring the necessity of increasing the district’s income tax and directing Treasurer Tom Sommer to certify to the Tax Commissioner of the Ohio Department of Taxation with a copy of the resolution.

The Board accepted the high bid of $185,000 from the Spiritual Center of Maria Stein from the sale at the public auction held on June 28th, for the purchase of property which is  located at 6731 St. Rt. 219, Montezuma, Ohio, in Franklin Township. The building and the five acres of land on which it’s located had been assessed at about $1 million. The building had been occupied by the Mercer County Head Start Program since 2010.

The board will be looking at its next meeting (7-17-17) to discuss and move forward with the tax increase that will be voted on by district voters.

Three teachers were also hired by the system.
